Kabul, Sept 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Taliban has launched coordinated attacks on the US Embassy and several other targets in Kabul on Tuesday. The NATO headquarters in the city was among the high profile targets on the hit list of the Taliban.

Six Afghans have been confirmed dead. No international casualties have been confirmed in the attack which is still ongoing. US officials said they want to minimize civilian casualties to the lowest level possible. The insurgents have taken refuge in high-rising buildings.

NATO officials said the situation in Kabul is currently under control. The security of the organization’s headquarters was not breached in the attack which started after 11 GMT, a NATO official has noted. Multiple blasts have been heard in the city.

US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said American diplomats will not be rushed from Afghanistan because of the attacks. She told reporters that, “The civilians who serve… will not be intimidated by this kind of cowardly attack.”

Local reporters say Afghan fighters are engaged in a battle with the terrorists. They are trying to take control of the building where the terrorists are currently firing from.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attacks. The group announced that, “The primary targets of the attackers are the intelligence agency building and a ministry.”
