So-called marriage with Capt Amarinder Singh had put my life in danger

Chandigarh, December 24 (ANI): Pakistani journalist and friend of former Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, Aroosa Alam, has said that reports regarding her so-called marriage with Capt Amarinder Singh had put her life in danger in Pakistan.
“Anything could have happened to me following the appearing of that sort of stories”, she said.
“However, as I have a good number of friends in Pakistan media, they supported me like anything to clarify my position in that country”, Aroosa added.
Aroosa, who was in news a few months ago in India as her name was linked to former Capt. Amarinder Singh, is here to clarify “rumours” regarding her marriage with the former Chief Minister.
She said that she has two grown up sons and the elder one is of 33 years with law degree from Lincolns Inn, and added that they all had come to India a few months ago.
“I will speak to the media in detail at the Press Club in this regard on December 26″, Aroosa said.
“There is no truth in what has been written with regard to my name linking with Capt Amarinder Singh. We are friends for the past some years and that is it and nothing more”, she said.
Turning towards Capt Amarinder Singh, Aroosa jokingly said, “I would love to marry this man, but can law permit this,” she asked.
Capt Amarinder Singh replied that under Indian law only one marriage is permitted, and added that in Pakistan, a woman is not allowed a second marriage till she divorces her first husband.
Commenting on the “ring exchange” stories, Aroosa said that was just a gossip spread by vested interests. No ring was exchanged or gifted by him.
“I believe perhaps opponents of Capt Amarinder Singh spread rumours with regard to so-called marriage to damage him on the eve of elections”, she said.
Aroosa said that she has come here to meet Capt Amarinder Singhs ailing mother.
“I had the impression that Indian society is more liberal than that of Pakistan. However, the way stories with regard to my relations with Capt Amarinder Singh were blown out, my impression has changed quite a bit”, she said.
“In Pakistan, media does not report much about personal matters”, The Tribune quoted Aroosa, as saying. (ANI)
