Six Pakistanis held in Sir Creek
August 17th, 2009 - 6:11 pm ICT by IANSBhuj, Aug 17 (IANS) Six Pakistani nationals were Monday nabbed by the marine patrol wing of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Sir Creek in Gujarat’s Kutch region bordering Pakistan while they were trying to cross over to the Indian side, an official said.
“We have seized a boat and have rounded up its occupants. The men do not seem to be fishermen and their presence in Sir Creek is being considered as suspicious,” a senior BSF official said.
He said that the Pakistani nationals are being questioned about their motives. “There are no more leads available immediately. These men have also not been able to explain their motives,” the official added.
The BSF has upped vigilance in the entire coastal corridor of the Kutch region following the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in which the terrorists used the marine route to enter the city. The entire coastal corridor of Gujarat is currently being monitored by the Indian Coast Guard aided by the BSF and the marine patrol wing of the Gujarat Police.
Of late, the customs department has also been asked by the union home ministry to help with maintaining vigil on Gujarat’s coastal corridor.
