Six killed in Pakistan suicide bomb attack (Second Lead)

Islamabad, Feb 22 (IANS) Six people, including two security officials, were killed and 15 wounded Monday in a suicide bomb attack in Pakistan’s northwestern Mingora city, media reports said.
Police said a suicide bomber blew himself up when a security convoy was passing through the Nishat Chowk in Mingora, the Online news agency reported.
Eight vehicles of the convoy and six shops were destroyed.
The blast was so powerful that windowpanes of nearby buildings were shattered.
Mingora city is located in the Swat district of North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
Meanwhile, the security forces cordoned off the area and rescue efforts were underway.
Deputy Inspector General of Malakand Mohammad Idrees told reporters that it was a suicide attack.
Officials said the attack took place despite a curfew clamped in Mingora after reports that a suicide bomber had entered the city.
Earlier, Dawn newspaper reported on its website that six people were killed and 12 wounded in a car bomb explosion at Saidu Sharif bus stand in Mingora. Gunshots were heard in the city after the blast.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the attack.
In separate statements, they expressed grief over the loss of lives.
The prime minister has called for best medical help for the injured.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik has ordered the NWFP police to submit a report on the attack.
