Karachi, Aug.18 (ANI): The Sindh High Court (SHC) has reserved its verdict on the petition seeking the high treason trial of former President General Pervez Musharraf.
During the proceeding, the division bench of the SHC comprising of Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and judge Abdul Hadi Khoso reserved the verdict on the petition filed by one Iqbal Haider, saying former dictators had also amended the Constitution before Musharraf, but the court of justice never acted against them.
“If Musharraf did the same, what offence did he commit?” the court said.
During the hearing, Usmani maintained that if the apex court had not initiated proceedings against Musharraf, then how could the high court do so?
Haider had moved the petition under Article 199 seeking trial of Musharrf, his aides Sharifuddin Pirzada and Justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum on charges of “high treason,” The Nation reports.
The petition charged the men of abetting, abrogation and subversion of the Constitution, either by proclaiming or assisting in proclaiming.
It stated that all acts of the former president on November 3, 2007, were illegal and thereafter all amendments are also illegal. (ANI)
