Lahore, Dec 1 (ANI): The candidacy of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s brother, Shahbaz Sharif, has been rejected because of pending criminal charges against him, election authorities have said.
Shahbaz Sharif had filed his nomination papers for National Assembly seat NA 119, and Punjab Assembly seats PP141 and PP 142.
Shahbaz Sharif said that he would challenge the rejection in court.
Presiding officer Ashtar Abbas said that Shahbaz Sharif’s bid for candidacy had been turned down after other candidates objected that he was unable to run for office, citing pending charges of murder and default on a bank loan.
The returning officer rejected Shahbazs papers due to Ittefaq Foundry loans default, sources said.

Meanwhile, Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif are set to meet next week to decide whether or not to take part in the upcoming general elections.
PML-N leader Raja Zafr-ul-Haq told a foreign news agency that both the leaders are scheduled to meet on Monday in Islamabad to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country.
They would also discuss whether or not to take part in the upcoming general elections.
PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar also confirmed reports about next weeks meeting between both leaders. (ANI)
