Seven killed in Swabi suicide attack targeting Pak politician

Peshawar, Mar 30(ANI): Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur Rehman had a narrow escape on Wednesday when a suicide bomber blew up his explosives near a police check post in Pakistan’s Swabi district, killing at least seven people- including a policeman- on the spot.According to District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi Jabbar Khan, a suicide bomber detonated the explosives tied to his body when the police stopped him from crossing the check post near Swabi Interchange on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway.

The target of the bomber was JUI (F) chief Rehman, who was going to address a public gathering in a while, The News reports. Jabbar Khan said that the injured were rushed to Bacha Khan Medical Complex in Mardan and Swabi’s district hospital.

Police and other law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area, Samaa TV reports.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and other key politicians have condemned the suicide attack. (ANI)
