Security tightened in Peshawar as Lahore death toll goes up to 23January 10th, 2008 - 7:25 pm ICT by admin
Peshawar, Jan 10 (ANI): A red alert has been declared in Peshawar and additional police contingents have been deployed in the city, even as the death toll in Lahore suicide attack went up to 23.
A top security official in Peshawar said that security plan had already been chalked out and that security was beefed up after the Lahore suicide blast.
He added that security remained on high alert amid protest of lawyers in the city.
Additional police contingents have been deployed at key places of the city and police started patrolling, and Peshawar security officials have appealed the masses to co-operate with security officials, The News quoted him as saying.
According to initial police report into the Lahore suicide attack, a 14-kg explosive material was used in the device, including four-kilogram of ball bearings and other material. The bomber used suicide belt for the attack with explosives laden pockets on both sides of the belt, said the report.
More than 70 persons were wounded in the incident and were taken to hospitals for medical aid. (ANI)
