Saudi consulate in Pakistan attacked
May 11th, 2011 - 9:38 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, May 11 (IANS) Motorcycle-borne assailants Wednesday lobbed two hand grenades at the consulate of Saudi Arabia in the Pakistani port city of Karachi, police said.
No one was injured. The attackers fled the area, Xinhua reported.
Iqbal Mehmood, deputy inspector general of police, said two unidentified motorcyclists wearing helmets attacked the Saudi consulate in Karachi’s Defence Housing Society area.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. The Saudi embassy in Islamabad has not commented on the incident.
Witnesses said one grenade landed inside the consulate and the second exploded outside the boundary wall.
The government suspended three guards of the consulate. A police guard at the consulate was detained for questioning.
