New Delhi, May 25 (ANI): Having already received a pat on his back from UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for successfully running the coalition government for four years, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has earned a new admirer in Samajwadi Party’s leader Shahid Siddiqqi.
Adding to the growing thaw in political relations between the Samajawadi and Congress leaders, senior SP leader Shahid Siddiqui has appreciated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his leadership.
Speaking to ANI, Siddiqui said,: “Running a coalition government of so many political parties is never an easy task for anyone. But it was for the able leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh that it could be made possible. Certainly, he has emerged as a strong Prime Ministers for the country.”
Making a comparision between former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh, the senior SP leader said: “When one looks at the era of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, one finds that she commanded the political scene because her party was strong. But, sadly, though Dr. Singh has emerged as a strong PM, the Congress party cannot say the same for itself.”
Siddiqui handed out a word of caution to the UPA Government. He asked the government to snap its connections with International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank driven economic policies.
He suggested, “The government should follow a economic policy that relate to masses. This is the only way out if UPA intends to keep the saffron BJP away from the power.”
Asked about the possibilities of the Samajwadi Party becoming a political partner of the Congress party, Siddiqui though denied joining the coalition in immediate future, but suggested it a probability in future.
“At present the Congress and SP has common enemy (Bahujan Samaj Party) in Uttar Pradesh, the coalition will be in interest of both the parties’ political interest,” Siddiqui quipped. (ANI)
