Rehman slams Sharif for criticism of Govt. handling of Mumbai terror attacksDecember 19th, 2008 - 3:24 pm ICT by ANI
Islamabad, Dec.19 (ANI): Pakistan Information Minister Sherry Rehman has criticized PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for attacking the PPP-led government in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.
Referring to an interview of Sharif aired on a private television channel, Rehman said: It is unfortunate that the leadership of a major political party, which we want to work with for rebuilding democracy and overcoming challenges, chooses a sensitive time to launch an attack on the government when the country needs nationalunity and consensus.
Sharif in his interview called Pakistan a failed and ungovernable state, the News reported.
Rehman urged all the political leaders in the country to step aside their political differences, as it is the need of the hour to unite.
We dont wish to trade in a war of words as that will not benefit our citizens who seek stability and maturity from their leadership right now, she said.
We appeal to all political leaders to remain united leaving aside their political differences because the situation demands unity, Rehman said.
Expressing that the nations progress is a responsibility of all the political parties, she said: We are all responsible for moving forward together.
Rehman also said that Nawaz Sharif is a part of the government as his party heads a coalition government in the biggest province of the country.
She said that the country is governed by a government, which is elected by the majority of people and has full support of them.
The country is being governed by an elected government that has paid a heavy price in the form of lives and jail sentences for its convictions, and has the full support of the majority, the News quoted Sherry Rehman as saying. (ANI)
