Rehman Malik backs ruling PPP to complete five-year term
November 3rd, 2010 - 5:15 pm ICT by ANILahore, Nov 3(ANI): The Pakistan People’s Party government would complete its five-year constitutional term, Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
In an interview with a private TV channel in London, Malik said that all rumors regarding the government’s removal are going to die.
The Interior Minister also urged media to play a role in putting an end to this rumor-based false campaign, the Nation reported.
Malik’s remark came after Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, opposition leader in the Pakistan National Assembly, said that mid-term elections could be one of the options to get rid of the ruling PPP government.
Khan said that such a situation has emerged due to the dismal performance of the government.
“Mid-term election is an option. Whenever there is talk about this, hue and cry is started in power corridors. Voices are coming from streets that we be saved from the present rulers and I hear these voices,” Khan had said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had ruled out mid-term elections saying that there was no provision for it in the constitution.
“Those who demand midterm elections should first go for local government elections. There are two ways to go for midterm. First to dissolve the Assembly and the other option is the imposition of martial law,” Gilani had said. “I will not dissolve the Assembly while Army is sincere and a pro-democracy force and will not impose martial law”, he added.
