Protests in Islamabad over closure of public transport
January 2nd, 2012 - 1:54 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Jan 2 (IANS) Protesters Monday blocked the expressway here after public transport was suspended due to non-availability of compressed natural gas (CNG).
CNG station owners are observing a strike over gas price hike by the government, Geo TV reported. A similar strike is also being observed across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Commuters in Islamabad were seen waiting for public transport since 6 a.m. Monday, Geo TV said.
Protesters have also blocked a main road in the city’s Bara Kahu area.
CNG stations in Punjab and Balochistan provinces also remained closed as part of a strike called by the All Pakistan CNG Association Saturday.
