July 24th, 2009 - 7:51 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Patna, July 24 (ANI): Opposition parties in Bihar on Friday expressed anguish over the reported stripping and assault of a woman by a group of men here.
On Thursday evening, a group of men had allegedly abused, assaulted and then stripped a 22-year-old woman in full public view at a busy road.
As per media reports, police personnel were present at the site but took about an hour before taking action against the culprits.
Legislators of opposition parties namely the Communist Party of India, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress staged demonstrations accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of not maintaining law and order.
Protestors held placards and raised slogans as they stood outside Legislative Assembly and blamed state government for the incident.
“The incident that has happened with a woman yesterday is a shameful incident for entire Bihar state and its insult for entire women community. This also proves that Nitish (Chief of Bihar state Nitish Kumar) government is of no use. In front of policemen and administration a woman was stripped in full public glare. There can nothing be more shameful than this,” said Jyoti Devi, a member of legislative council of Congress party.
RJD members burnt effigy of Nitish Kumar and demanded implementation of president’s rule in the state.
“I want to say to Nitish Kumar that he should apologise to the common people as he cheated the common man. He made promises of good governance but the opposite is happening. And I would also like to appeal the president that he should expel Nitish government, ” Kurshid Alam, leader of the RJD said.
Reportedly, policemen deployed at the site have also been suspended following the incident.
National Commission for Women has asked Bihar government to submit a report on the incident and has urged the state chief to personally look into the matter. (ANI)
