Islamabad, Dec 20 (ANI): Pressure is mounting on the Pakistan Government to order a military operation against members of defunct jihadi organisations and local Taliban in Darra Adam Khel after a search for two presumably abducted army officers and two soldiers did not yield results.

Security and military sources in the Kohat Garrison said that Tuesdays incident of the two-army officers being taken hostage had placed pressure on the Government to order an immediate operation in the area that is fast becoming the regional headquarters of militants with links to Waziristan.

I think the Army Chief is preparing a master plan to tackle the menace of militancy with an iron hand. A military operation is imminent, as the situation in Darra is posing a serious future challenge, sources said.

Two captains and two soldiers lost contact near Darra Adam Khel, some 20 kilometres north of Kohat on Tuesday. Military spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad feared that militants might have kidnapped them at gunpoint.

Efforts are on for the recovery of the soldiers, but no clue has been found leading to the whereabouts of the missing jawans, Major General Arshad said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction so far, the Daily Times quoted the sources, as saying.

Major General Arshad said that he did not know whether the government was contemplating military operation, adding that if the army were called in to assist paramilitary or police forces, it would join other law enforcement agencies to take out the threat.

In August, over 280 soldiers were taken hostage in South Waziristan and their freedom was secured in return for the release of 15 militants.

Sources said three groups a banned militant organisation with involvement in sectarian violence, a local Darra-based organisation with links to Baitullah Mehsud and an outlawed Kashmiri militant outfit were active in the area and a delay in operation against them will make things as bad as they were in Swat.
