Prachanda vows to implement Supreme Court decision on Pashupati templeJanuary 6th, 2009 - 6:04 pm ICT by ANI
Kathmandu, Jan 6 (ANI): Nepal Prime Minister Prachanda has said that he will abide by the interim order delivered by Supreme Court (SC) on Pashupati temple row.
Talking to reporters here, the Prime Minister said, “We will respect the order of the apex court.”
Issuing an interim order on Thursday, the Apex Court had asked the government and the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) not to let the newly appointed Nepali priests offer worship at the temple till the Supreme Court issues its final verdict on the case.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam said, “The apex court has given an order. We are consulting with attorney general to find ways of implementing it. We will definitely follow the order.”
The government had earlier said they defended their decision to appoint new priests at the temple. However, following fierce criticism from within and outside the country, the government has now decided to follow the Supreme Court order, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
