PPP, PML-Q strike power-sharing deal
May 2nd, 2011 - 11:53 am ICT by ANIIslamabad, May 2(ANI): The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have agreed to form a coalition government and cooperate in the next general elections.
It was announced after a meeting held in Islamabad between the leaders of PPP and PML-Q, which was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
Briefing mediapersons, presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting was aiming for political re-alignment and strengthening reconciliation to address various issues confronting the country in an atmosphere of political stability, mutual tolerance and accommodation.
“The two parties also agreed to cooperate in the next elections, which will be held in accordance with the constitution,” the Daily Times quoted Babar, as saying.
The two parties also rejected any change in the government except through the mechanism of free, fair and transparent elections, as laid down in the constitution, he added. (ANI)
