PPP leaders laud Awan’s resignation to plead ZAB retrial case
April 18th, 2011 - 3:40 pm ICT by ANILahore, Apr 18(ANI): Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders have supported former Law Minister Babar Awan’s decision to resign from his post in order to plead the retrial case of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
PPP’s Deputy Parliamentary Leader in Punjab Assembly Shaukat Basra and other leaders, including Dr. Fakharuddin Chaudhry, Dr. Hasnat Shah, Munawar Anjum, Umar Misbahur Rehman and Hafiz Ikhlaq, said that Awan’s name would be written in golden words in the history of Pakistan and the PPP for the unprecedented deed.
PPP leader Umar Misbahur Rehman and Hafiz Muhammad Ikhlaq also supported Awan’s decision saying that everyone knows the sacrifices rendered by him for the cause of the country’s democratic system.
During the hearing of the retrial case last week, Awan had requested for arguing on behalf of the federation, and presented his resignation to the Supreme Court to fully qualify himself for appearing as a lawyer in the case.
“I prefer this case to my portfolio as the minister,” Awan had said in reply to Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry when told he (Awan) couldn’t pursue the case as a minister.
“My arguments are based on facts, not sentiments,” he added. (ANI)
