PPP criticises EC for inaction on violation of election rules

Islamabad, Dec 8 (ANI): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has criticised the Election Commission (EC) for its inaction on the partys complaints regarding violation of election rules across the country.
“So far, we have sent 1,050 complaints, pointing out violations of rules. But, the EC has failed to take any action,” said PPP Senator Latif Khan Khosa.
Khosa said the ECs response to Benazir Bhuttos letters regarding transfers and postings and the use of government machinery by officials was disappointing.
He said the party had established its own complaint centres at provincial headquarters to collect complaints from respective quarters.
“The EC has failed to maintain its impartiality,” the daily Times quoted Khosa, as saying.
Accusing the Musharraf regime of making plans to massively rig the upcoming elections, Khosa said his party is going to contest the elections under protest, keeping all options, including the boycott of polls open.
He asked the Musharraf regime to refrain from rigging the polls, otherwise there would be chaos in the country.
Khosa termed the caretaker set up as an extension of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) rule.
He hoped the PPP would repeat the 1970s election success because of mass support, despite the governments rigging.
The PPP has blamed the Musharraf regime of arranging 25,000 votes in over 100 NA constituencies in Punjab to favour its candidates. (ANI)
