Police check-post set ablaze protesting man’s killing

Islamabad, Dec 31 (IANS) A police check-post in Pakistan was Saturday set on fire by an angry family protesting the death of one of its members in police firing.

The man was killed in a gun-battle in Faisalabad city in Punjab province when police were trying to arrest a wanted criminal, Geo News reported.

Sources said the family members placed the body on Jaranwala Road, snatched arms from policemen and set ablaze a police check-post.

Sadiq Dogar, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Operations, said police from Sargodha district were conducting an operation to arrest a wanted criminal. During the operation, they entered a house and a man was killed there in cross-fire.

The police party fled the scene after the incident, he said.
