PML-Q shuns Musharraf, says ‘it has nothing to do with him’

Islamabad, July 29 (ANI): Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf might be hoping that the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) would come to his rescue amid the volley of legal cases being filed against him, but the PML-Q, which had close relations with Musharraf, has made it clear that it has ‘nothing to do’ with the former general.
PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain said his party has no relation with Musharraf.
Talking to party workers in Washington, Hussain said the PML-Q is’done with Musharraf’.
“We now have nothing to do with him,” Hussain said.
PML-Q insiders said the party has been extremely annoyed with Musharraf since long.
“Relations started worsening in the last few months of his (Musharraf’s) rule, when efforts were made to get rid of the Chaudhrys to pave the way for Musharraf to take over the party,” they said.
Sources said the PML-Q has decided to stay aloof from the case against Musharraf challenging the validity of the Nov 3, 2007 promulgation of the state of emergency and suspension of the Constitution by Musharraf.
PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has also made it clear that the party has no intention of becoming a respondent in the case.
“We will remain silent on this. Let the developments take their natural course. Why should we become a party?” The News quoted Hussain, as saying.
It may be recalled that PML-Q’s top leaders were perhaps the greatest beneficiary of Musharraf’s nine-year long military regime. (ANI)
