Islamabad, Aug.25 (ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has rejected former President General Pervez Musharraf’s suggestion asking both factions of the party to bury their differences and unite.
One of the senior office bearers of the party said Hussain has turned down Musharraf’s offer saying the former general has already decided to back one of the factions.
“Shujaat politely turned down the proposal saying that Musharraf had already put his weight behind one faction of the PML-Q, led by Hamid Nasir Chattha,” The Daily Times quoted the party official, as saying.
Musharraf had reportedly told his close aid Moonis Elahi during their meeting in London that he was ready to resolve the PML-Q’s infighting if Hussain resigns from the party president’s post paving the way for him to the top slot.
When asked about the issue, PML-Q Secretary General, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, said his party has a clear cut agenda according to which there was no role for the former dictator in the country’s political arena.
“We are clear over the issue. We have embarked upon a countrywide drive to reorganise the PML-Q. We have no intention to seek favours from anyone, including the former president,” Sayed said.
Sayed said Musharraf is on a foreign tour and is unlikely to return to the country to fulfill his political desires.
“I think he (Musharraf) has gone and has no plans to return to the country. There is no chance for his return to the political field and we wish him good luck,” he said.
Sayed said party leadership would soon meet to devise future strategy, and added that a public announcement would soon be made in this regard. (ANI)
