Islamabad, Dec.19 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has urged Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to implement the Supreme Court’s verdict on the National Reconciliation (NRO) in its true spirit.
PML-N leaders held a meeting here to discuss the party’s stance and its future course of action after the apex court declared the controversial amnesty law, the NRO, ‘unconstitutional.’
During the meeting, which was chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the party’s top brass lauded the court’s judgement, saying the monumental verdict would help establish the rule of law and a stable democracy in the country.
“The party hopes the government’s honest implementation of the SC verdict will increase the country’s dignity and discourage corrupt practices,” The Daily Times quoted the statement issued by the PML-N, as saying.
The PML-N stressed that the current turmoil in the country was caused due the non-implementation of Charter of Democracy (CoD), and also criticised the Gilani government for its failure to execute the CoD.
“Despite the passage of 20 months, the country is being run under the system introduced by former president Pervez Musharraf,” the statement added. (ANI)
