PML-N to submit application to Govt. for action against Musharraf

Islamabad, Aug 18 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to submit an application to the Government seeking action against former President General Pervez Musharraf instead of presenting a resolution in the National Assembly.
Under a new strategy, the PML-N would submit an application under Article 6 of the 1973 Constitution, which states that anyone who now abrogated or attempted or conspired to abrogate or subvert the constitution shall be “guilty of high treason.”
“We did not want to bring a resolution and have it fizzle out in parliament because of the opposition by some political parties. You will see something happening in the ongoing session that is likely to continue until August 21,” The Daily Times quoted a source in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, as saying.
“Our party was ready to present a resolution in the National Assembly seeking initiation of trial of the former president, but changed its mind after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani made his party’s intentions clear by saying that they will support only a consensus resolution,” the sources added.
These sources further said that since the implementation of the law was the responsibility of the Government, their party had decided to submit an application.
“The application can be submitted to the Prime Minister, who is the chief executive of the country, the Government of Pakistan or the Interior Ministry. The decision in this regard will be taken in the party meeting on Wednesday,” the sources added. (ANI)
