PML-N rules out any Sharif, Zardari meeting in near future

July 15th, 2009 - 2:52 pm ICT by ANI Tell a Friend -

Nawaz Sharif Islamabad, July 15 (ANI): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is not optimistic about any talks between party president Nawaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari in the near future.

Speculations about a thaw in the relationship between both leaders gained momentum when Zardari called Sharif recently.

In his telephonic conversation, Zardari reportedly thanked Sharif for his party’s unconditional support to the government on the issue of mass displacement of people due to the military offensive in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP).

Zardari also expressed a desire to meet Sharif.

However, senior PML-N leaders opine that there are very thin chances of meeting taking place.

The prime question is who will visit whom.

Sources privy to the PML-N leadership said there is almost a nil possibility of Sharif visiting the Presidency.

PML-N leaders believe that it would be very difficult for both leaders to meet without having something substantial to discuss, The Dawn reports.

“Although Zardari wants a meeting with Sharif, it will not be easy for them to sit across a table and just talk about politics in general. There has to be something concrete on the agenda,” a PML-N leader said on conditions of anonymity, as party leaders have been asked to keep mum on the issue.

“The PML-N leadership has decided in principle not to disturb the present set-up and let the government complete its five-year term,” he added. (ANI)
