Islamabad, Feb 17(ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif has said that his party’s stance on the case of double murder-accused US official Raymond Davis is very clear- that the country’s independent judiciary will decide his fate.
Nawaz made these comments while addressing a news conference at the Punjab House after holding a meeting with US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John F. Kerry.
He said he reiterated the PML-N’s “day-one stance” during the meeting- that the accused would be dealt in accordance with the law of the land.
“We respect our laws and want others to respect our laws as well,” Geo TV quoted Nawaz, as saying.
Responding to a question, the PML-N chief said that if Davis was issued a certificate of immunity by the federal government, it would be produced before the court for further proceedings, adding that Pakistan had an independent judiciary and the nation was proud of it.”We respect John Kerry’s grief, which he expressed with the members of the victims’ families. Had the US government conveyed this earlier, the situation would have been different?” Nawaz added. He said that he had also expressed his concern to Kerry over why the US Consulate’s vehicle and driver, who crushed a passer-by in the January 27 incident, had not been handed over to the police so far.Nawaz also claimed that the Punjab Government had written five letters to the US Consulate, but it had not responded in this regard.
