Peshawar suicide bombing kills three (Second Lead)

Peshawar, Nov 9 (IANS) At least three people were killed and five injured Monday when a suicide bomber struck at a police checkpoint in this northwestern city of Pakistan, a day after a powerful blast left 13 people, including the city mayor, dead.
The suicide bomb attack at the police checkpoint on Peshawar’s Ring Road killed three people and wounded five, Dawn quoted police officials as saying.
“It was at a police checkpoint,” said police officer Khursheed Khan. The bomber was travelling on a rickshaw when the explosion took place.
Just a day before, 13 people, including the mayor, were killed and 36 were wounded near here when a suicide bomber blew up a car.
This city faced this year’s worst terror attack in Pakistan Oct 28 when over 110 people were killed in a massive bombing at a crowded market.
Pakistan has witnessed a series of terror strikes as the army battles the Taliban in mountainous South Waziristan. The Taliban have vowed to retaliate.
The latest wave of militant violence started with a suicide bombing at the offices of the UN World Food Programme in Islamabad Oct 5.
