Peshawar High Court grants bail to TNSM chief Sufi Mohammad’s sons
August 26th, 2009 - 7:43 pm ICT by ANIPeshawar, Aug.26 (ANI): The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday granted bail to three sons of the Tanzim Nifaze Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM) chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad due to lack of evidence against them.
PHC’s single bench court comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan asked the authorities to release all the three sons of hardline cleric Sufi Mohammad saying there is not enough proof against them being involved in terror activities.
The three men were arrested along with their father, from their residence in Peshawar on July 22.
They were later sent to prison under the provision of the Maintenance of Public Order law, which allows people to be detained without charges being filed against them.
Sufi’s three sons Ziaullah, Rizwanullah and Hayatullah had challenged their detention in the court.
Counsel for the petitioners, Atlas Khan argued that his clients were innocent and they had no relation with the TNSM or with their father’s activities.
He said the order of the district coordination officer (DCO), Peshawar, was illegal and lacked solid grounds.
After hearing Khan’s plea, the court ordered the DCO and the home department to table proof against Sufi’s sons failing which it directed the authorities to release them from jail. (ANI)
