Washington, Dec. 19 (ANI): The Pentagon, has for the first time admitted, that all is not well between the United States and Pakistan, saying there are issues between both the countries which are “festering from the past”.

Talking to media persons here, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Pakistan and Afghanistan, David Sedney termed the US-Pak relationship as ‘complex’, but added that efforts are on to resolve issues.

“Certainly, our relationship with Pakistan is complex. There have been a lot of ups and downs over the years, and there are a lot of areas where we still have a lot of open questions and where there are, for lack of a better word, issues that continue to fester from the past,” The Dawn quoted Sedney, as saying.

Sedney highlighted that both the countries have high expectations from each other, due to which certain issues keep cropping up.

“There’re things that Pakistan wants that we’re not able to do, things that we want that Pakistan is not able to do. Sometimes our discussions with our Pakistani colleagues are very, very difficult. Other times they’re very, very positive,” the Pentagon official said.

The relationship between Washington and Islamabad hit an all time low in recent days when US officials accused the Pakistani authorities of running a deliberate campaign to harass them.

According to US officials the Pakistani authorities have refused to extend or approve visas of at least 100 US officials in the recent past.

Moreover, frequent checking of American diplomatic vehicles in major cities across the country has also irked the foreign officials.

The obstinate attitude of the Pakistani agencies has also hampered the aid flow into the country. (ANI)
