Pakistan’s role in war on terror should not be doubted: Kayani
May 5th, 2011 - 11:51 am ICT by ANIRawalpindi, May 5(ANI): Pakistan’s role in the war against terrorism should not be doubted, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said.
Kayani was speaking during a meeting at the General Headquarters (GHQ), where the army’s top brass had gathered to discuss the situation in the light of Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden’s killing in Abbottabad by US troops.
The Saudi-born terrorist, who had evaded capture for a decade, was killed Sunday night in a top secret operation involving a small team of US Special Forces in Abbottabad city, located 50 kilometres northeast of Islamabad and 150 kilometres east of Peshawar.
During the meeting, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha also gave a briefing regarding the security situation following the operation.
A new strategy on Pakistan’s security will also be devised in the next few days by the Corps Commanders, The Nation reports.
According to reports, Pakistani security officers once again closed off Abbottabad’s leafy suburb of Bilal Town on Tuesday, where Osama bin Laden and his family lived for up to five years, according to US authorities.
Intelligence officials sifted through the compound and General Kayani flew in to inspect the site. (ANI)
