Pakistan’s bar association elects its first woman chief

Islamabad, Oct 27 (IANS) Supreme court advocate and human rights activist Asma Jehangir Wednesday became the first woman to be elected president of Pakistan’s Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), a media report said.
Asma Jehangir bagged 834 votes against 796 votes secured by her closest competitor Ahmed Owais in a nationwide poll Wednesday, Geo TV reported.
President Asif Ali Zardari, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, former president Pervez Musharraf and MQM chief Altaf Hussain felicitated Asma Jehangir on her historic win.
