Amritsar, May 21 (IANS) A woman prisoner from Pakistan lodged here in a narcotics case died in the jail following illness. Prison sources said the woman, Rashida Begum, fell unconscious while being taken for a court hearing. She was rushed to a government hospital but died on the way.
She was arrested by customs officials at the Attari railway station in 2006 along with two other women from Pakistan and was charged under the Narcotics Act.
Indian authorities had May 10 handed over the body of another Pakistani prisoner, Mohammed Akram, to Pakistan after he died due to illness while he was undergoing trial in a local court here for crossing into Indian territory illegally.
