Pakistani transvestites get identity cards
January 26th, 2012 - 12:08 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Jan 26 (IANS) Transvestites in Pakistan’s Rawalpindi city are getting computerised national identity cards following a fiat by the Supreme Court.
The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has started issuing the cards. The Election Commission has also begun registering them in the voters’ list, Dawn News reported Thursday.
Transvestites who have identity cards can get their gender changed.
No fee is charged for the new identity cards. But those who want their gender changed would have to pay Rs.200.
