Islamabad, Jan 19 (IANS) Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani was in the driver’s seat while travelling to the Supreme Court for a hearing on a contempt notice it had issued to him for failing to act against corruption.
Gilani’s lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said the prime minister himself drove to the court.
Gilani waved to the large crowd before walking into the court, where he spoke for seven minutes. He told the court that the constitution provides immunity to President Asif Ali Zardari and he therefore cannot be procceded against on graft charges.
The court wants the government to re-open the corruption cases against Zardari.
After his submission, Gilani walked out with a smile. He again waved to the people gathered at the court complex before getting into his car.
