Pakistani man injured in accident with US embassy car in Islamabad
March 13th, 2011 - 4:01 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Mar 13(ANI): A Pakistan government employee has been injured in an accident with a US embassy vehicle in Islamabad.
Maqbool Ahmed, a driver in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, was injured in the accident that took place near Beverly Centre in Blue Area on Saturday, The Express Tribune reports.
Police said Ahmed injured his ankle after crashing his motorbike into a Honda Civic (MK-743) while taking a U-turn on Jinnah Avenue.
His wife and two children were also riding the motorcycle, but did not suffer injuries.
The US Embassy’s First Secretary Carlos, who was driving the car, was advised by the police on phone to remain in his car and lock his doors to avoid any untoward situation as people gathered at the site.
Ahmed was shifted to the Polyclinic Hospital to get treatment for his ankle, while Carlos was rescued by the police within minutes and taken to the Kohsar Police Station.
Ahmed claimed the US official had hit him from behind, and therefore the American was to be blamed for the accident.
However, the police said evidence suggested that Ahmed was at fault, as the bike had crashed into the rear right door of the vehicle.
Carlos, who told the police that he was driving within his lane and in the designated speed limit, was released after the police determined that he was not at fault.
Police officials approached the US embassy to complete legal requirements. A police official said the embassy was cooperative, and it was likely that Ahmed would be paid compensation. (ANI)
