Pakistani artists, activists to participate in peace festival
October 14th, 2009 - 12:01 am ICT by IANSAmritsar, Oct 13 (IANS) Amritsar is all set to host the 10-day ‘Peace Festival 2009′ from Wednesday that will see the participation of around 90 artists and activists from neighbouring Pakistan.
This festival is being organised by the South Asia Foundation, a non-profit organisation that has eight autonomous chapters in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
“This is happening for the first time in the history of India and Pakistan that such a huge number of artists are coming to Amritsar from Lahore to participate in this peace festival,” said theatre director M.K. Raina Tuesday evening.
“The festival will include plays and films focusing on peace and communal harmony from both countries,” Raina added.
The festival will also include a play directed by Raina called “Stay a While”, which includes a multimedia presentation based on conversations between Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatama Gandhi.
“Around 200 children from India and Pakistan on either side of Attari-Wagah border would make paintings Oct 16. A 1,200-foot long painting will be joined up and carried across the border to form the backdrop of the festival at Amritsar,” Raina said.
