Pakistan-US strategic talks begin
March 24th, 2010 - 8:19 pm ICT by IANSWashington, March 24 (IANS) Pakistan and the US here Wednesday began talks aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are co-chairing the dialogue.
Setting the dialogue in motion, Clinton lauded Islamabad’s role in establishing peace in South Asia and termed Pakistan’s security a top priority, Geo TV reported.
Referring to Pakistan’s anti-terror operations, Clinton pledged full support, saying “Its struggles are our struggles.”
But she acknowledged that the two nations “have had our misunderstandings and disagreements in the past”.
“There are sure to be more disagreements in the future, as there are between any friends or, frankly, any family members,” she said.
“But this is a new day. For the past year, the Obama administration has shown in words and deeds a different approach,” she added.
