Pakistan to go for polls on January 8November 20th, 2007 - 3:05 pm ICT by admin
Islamabad, Nov 20 (ANI): Pakistan Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Qazi Mohammad Farooq today announced that the general elections and provincial elections in the country will be held on January 8 next year.
The nomination papers will be issued from November 21, which can be submitted with respective officers till November 26.
The screening of the nominations will be held from November 27 to December 3, while objections can be filed on December 7 that will be decided on December 14.
Last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is December 15, and the final list of the candidates would be publicised on December 16.
Over 80 million voters would cast their right to vote in the elections, Justice (retired) Farooq said, adding that transparent ballot boxes will be used in the elections.
He urged women voters to cast their votes, adding that the action will be taken against the parties or candidates that would hinder the women voters from exercising their franchise.
Holding free and fair elections is the foremost priority of the election commission adding that the foreign observers would be welcomed, The News quoted him, as saying. (ANI)
