Pakistan says 26/11 probe ‘almost complete’
July 11th, 2009 - 9:17 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Islamabad, July 11 (IANS) Saying that its probe into the 26/11 terror attacks was “almost complete” and that the trial of five suspects could commence next week, Pakistan Saturday accused India of delaying the investigations.
“Our investigations into the incident are almost complete,” Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters here after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal.
“Five of the nine suspects have been arrested and their trial is going to commence probably next week,” Malik added.
He also sought to blame India for the delay in the probe into the Nov 26-29, 2008 carnage that claimed the lives of more than 170 people, including 26 foreigners.
“India took more than 90 days in conducting its probe. Pakistan, however, took up the matter in a matter of six days,” Malik contended, adding: “So, Pakistan cannot be accused of delaying the investigations”.
“India has still not provided some significant details regarding Mumbai attacks. India should expedite on the issue because every item of evidence is of vital importance during the trial.
He also demanded India provide details of the Feb 2007 Samjhauta Express blast in which 68 people, most of them Pakistanis returning home, died.
