Pakistan planning to ban Indian TV channels
January 23rd, 2010 - 3:12 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Jan.23 (ANI): The Pakistan government is mulling over a ban on airing Indian television channels in the country.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Information Secretary Azeem Doltana said the government is considering a proposal to ban Indian TV channels, The News reports.
Doltana, however, did not disclose the reason behind such move.
It may be noted that Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting had recommended a ban on all Indian channels being telecast by the cable operators across the country.
PML-Q leader Tariq Azeem had asked the government to immediately ban the Indian TV channels from being aired in Pakistan, amidst rising tension between both the countries.
Azeem said that the Indian government has banned the books of Pakistani authors from being sold in India, so Pakistan should also give a reply to the Indian stance by slapping a ban on the T.V. channels.
The committee members also recommended that screening of Bollywood movies by the cable operators, and in theaters, should be stopped immediately. (ANI)
