London, Feb.2 (ANI): Despite Pakistans continuous effort to garner support of the international community over its claims of it being sincere in trying to root out terrorism from its soil, experts believe that Pakistan continues to play a prominent and problematic role in the overlapping armed conflicts and terrorist campaigns in India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan itself
According to Brian Michael Jenkins of US-based think tank Rand Corporation, Pakistan despite its claims of coming down hard on the terrorist groups operating from its soil, continues to air the flames of terror in the region including India and Afghanistan.
Pakistan continues to play a prominent and problematic role in the overlapping armed conflicts and terrorist campaigns in India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan itself, Jenkins in his report presented before the US Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee said.
The report added that the ungoverned tribal areas of Pakistan were the breeding ground of all terror activities in the region.
Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba and other insurgent and terrorist groups find sanctuary in Pakistans turbulent tribal areas, The Dawn quoted the report, as saying.
Charging the democratic set-up of Pakistan, Jenkins in his report said that the government of the country is not doing enough to counter the problem which is being supported by the civilians too.
Some of them (terrorist organisations) have drawn on support from the Pakistan government itself. It has been reluctant to use military force against its own citizens in the remote tribal areas where these groups reside, it said.
Many Pakistanis regard India and the United States, not Al Qaeda or the Taliban, as greater threats to Pakistans national security, the report added. (ANI)
