Pakistan Army major sacked for theft
September 15th, 2011 - 12:56 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Sep 15 (IANS) A Pakistani Army major who was involved in the theft of copper wire worth millions of rupees from a railway wagon has been sacked, the authorities said.
A wagon of a Pakistan Railways freight train carrying copper wire worth millions of rupees was taken away from Lahore and was found standing at a platform in Kharian in Gujrat district.
The officer, Major Ayub, was taken into custody over the theft. A station master and two goods booking clerks also have been arrested.
The stolen cable had been sold in Gujrat district.
Major Ayub was dismissed from service, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
He has been directed to deposit his share of the embezzled amount in the government treasury, Dawn reported.
On Aug 4, copper valued at Rs.240,000 was loaded onto a wagon of a freight train at Raiwind and was to be transported to a store located at Lahore.
This wagon was stolen from Lahore Railway station Aug 12 and it reached Kharian in Gujrat Aug 15. Railway police registered case and the wagon was recovered from Kharian Sep 7.
