Islamabad, Feb.12 (ANI): After several flip-flops, Pakistan for the first time on Thursday, officially accepted that plans to carry out terrorist attacks in Mumbai were hatched on its soil.
Addressing a press conference here, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilanis Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik said some-part of the 26/11 conspiracy was plotted in Pakistan.
Rehman also claimed that a major part of the attack was in fact plotted in India itself.
Divulging details about the probe carried out by Pakistani authorities, he said a high-level probe headed by an FIA IG was conducted, as Islamabad was keen to bring the 26/11 perpetrators to justice, and tell the international community that it is serious about probing the incident.
Malik informed that an FIR have been lodged against Ajmal Amir Kasab,the lone surviving terrorist and nine others, based on the FIA probe.
Ajmal Kasab and nine others have been named in the FIR, out of whom six have been arrested, he said.
They have been booked under the Anti-Terrorism law (ATC), Malik added.
He, however, said that while Kasab was of Pakistan origin, the origins of the other nine attackers were not known by the Pakistani Government.
Malik said Pakistans investigations were based on the dossier provided by New Delhi, but added that the Indian information were not enough for carrying on the probe and for registering an FIR.
We have done everything we can do on information provided by India, he said.
Malik added that the probe points towards a Lashkar-e Toibas (LeT) link in the Mumbai massacre.
The investigations have suggested that part of the terror attacks were plotted in some European country as well, he stated, adding that it could have been plotted in Italy or Spain.
He said the probe was still on, and steps were being taken by the authorities to nail the suspects and unearth their hideouts.
He said that Pakistan is ready to assist India in the investigations, and would offer all help unconditionallycondition.
Malik stressed on the fact that the masterminds of the attacks must be brought to book.
Responding to Pakistans response, New Delhi said it will comment on the issue only after getting an official report from Islamabad. (ANI)
