Pak wants UN development aid better ‘aligned’ with national goals, priorities
February 23rd, 2011 - 3:22 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Feb 23 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has called for better alignment of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) assistance with Pakistan’s national development goals and priorities.
Gilani made the call after meeting UNDP administrator for Pakistan, Helen Clark, in Islamabad.
According to the Daily Times, Gilani urged for an enhanced focus on the agriculture, rural development, health, education and infrastructure sectors through monitoring and policy mechanisms.
The Prime Minister said that despite natural calamities like the earthquakes of 2005 and floods of 2010, Pakistan had made faster developments in quite a few basic human developments indexes as compared to other countries.
Gilani also said that the priority of his government was the provision of education and health facilities by rebuilding infrastructure destroyed in the natural calamities and reviving the agricultural sector in order to reduce poverty in the country. (ANI)
