Pak-US joint probe begins into Mohmand Agency attack

Peshawar , June 19 (ANI): Pakistan and the US have begun a joint investigation into the June 11 aerial attacks by the US-led coalition forces on Pakistan s Mohamand Agency killing 11 FC troops.

While Pakistan has strongly condemned the attack, with a section of Pakistani leadership even suggesting that it was deliberately done by the US-led forces, the US troops maintained that they carried out the attack in self-defence.

Washington agreed to joint investigation with Islamabad after the latter strongly protested against the incident and summoned US Ambassador Anne W Patterson to the Foreign Office to lodge a protest.

US embassy spokeswoman Elizabeth Colton said: It is a joint investigation and it is ongoing.

She, however, did not say when the investigation started and how long it would go on, reported the Daily Times.

No details can be shared during an (ongoing) investigation. Of course, we will release findings once the investigation completes, she said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Army spokesman Athar Abbas has denied reports of any joint investigation into the Mohmand attack, saying: No US team has arrived in Pakistan nor has any joint investigation started. (ANI)
