Pak to conduct on ground inspection of India’s hydel power projects in Leh, Kargil
June 4th, 2010 - 1:33 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Jun.4 (ANI): Pakistan Indus Water Commissioner Syed Jamat Ali Shah has said that as there are certain issues regarding construction work being undertaken by India on the Chutak and Nimoo Bazgo hydro projects in Leh and Kargil, which will be inspected by Pakistani officials in August.
Shah, who recently attended a meeting of the Permanent Indus Water Commission in New Delhi, said Islamabad has objections on three hydel power projects namely Uri-II (Jhelum), Chutak and Nimoo Bazgo (both on Indus), and certain differences with India over the design of the 24o megawatt Uri-II project on Jhelum, which is situated close to the Line of Control (LoC).
“Our objections are on the level of the gates and the sedimentation problem, for which we have not received in-depth information from the Indian side. In both Chutak and Nimoo, Pakistan has apprehensions over the design parameters with regard to parapet so that there is no overstorage,” The Nation quoted Shah, as saying.
Referring to the recent talks with his Indian counterpart G Ranganathan, Shah said New Delhi has assured Islamabad that all its concerns and objections would be discussed with high- level experts and other higher authorities in order to come out with a solution to the problems.
He also expressed the hope that all issues would be sorted out amicably in the near future.
“We have not lost hope for amicable resolution at the level of the Commission,” Shah said. (ANI)
