Islamabad, Jan.1 (ANI): The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has rebuffed reports about it carrying out the suicide bombings in Karachi targetting a Muharram procession, in which over 40 people were killed.
A TTP spokesman, Azam Tariq said his group was involved in the attack.
Commenting on the reported claims by one Asmatullah Shaheen, who described himself as a TTP spokesman, Tariq said: “He (Shaheen) could have been referring to his own group, but TTP has nothing to do with the attack,”
Interior Minister Rehman Malik had also described Shaheen as a self-proclaimed TTP spokesman.
More than 40 people were killed and over 90 received injuries on Monday when a suicide attacker blew himself up just as a Muharram procession was passing by.
Over 400 shops and 50 vehicles were torched by angry protestors in different parts of the city following the suicide blast.
According to an estimate, property worth rupees 30 billion rupees was gutted in the violence that followed the deadly suicide attack. (ANI)
