Pak Taliban planning to attack foreign aid workers involved in flood relief: US

London, Aug.26 (ANI): The United States has warned that the Taliban is planning to target foreign aid workers involved in flood relief in Pakistan.
A top American official said that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) may attack foreigners participating in relief operations in the country, as the country struggles to cope with the worst floods in the last 80 years.
“According to information available to the US government, Tehrik-e Taliban plans to conduct attacks against foreigners participating in the ongoing flood relief operations in Pakistan,” BBC quoted the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, as saying.
He also warned that the extremists may also target leaders and ministers amidst the prevailing chaos in the country.
“Tehrik-e Taliban also may be making plans to attack federal and provincial ministers in Islamabad,” the official said.
The warning came hours after a top US general involved in the military relief effort said his personnel had not come across any security issues while rushing aid to Pakistan.
“We have seen no security threat whatsoever in the three weeks we have been operating here,” Brigadier General Michael Nagata had told a foreign news agency.
However, the terror threat appears to be more realistic considering this week’s series of attacks in the Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which left over 45 dead and 100 injured.
Monday’s strikes were a stark reminder of the fact that extremists continue to hold their ground in the country even as people are struggle to wade through the devastating floods. (ANI)
