Islamabad, Sept 5 (ANI): A Pakistani senator has asked the country’s Supreme Court to take suo motto notice of the ’spot-fixing’ scandal in cricket and also the government’s refusal to change Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) set-up.

Lawmakers were extremely upset that PCB patron, President Asaf Ali Zardari, had not accepted the advice of the Senate and National Assembly committees on sports, to remove PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, The News quoted Tahir Mashadi, a member of Senate Standing Committee on Sports, as saying.

“We feel that Ijaz Butt is totally unfit to run the cricket board and this betting scandal is a result of the PCB’s incompetence. But the chief patron has yet to listen to our recommendations,” Mashadi said.

He said he would appeal to the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court to take notice of the scandal and order a thorough inquiry into it.

However, sources in Islamabad said that Zardari revealed to his friends that he had no intentions of sacking Butt.

“Zardari has stated clearly that he will not change Butt and he will continue as chairman. He also said that there is a likelihood that Butt might get an extension when his two-year tenure ends in October,” a source said. (ANI)
