Pak protestors shout “hang Davis” over double murder charges
February 12th, 2011 - 5:57 pm ICT by ANILahore, Feb 12 (ANI): Pakistanis staged a demonstration in Lahore over a demand to “hang” Raymond Davis, the US national under arrest on double murder charges.
The Daily Times quoted about 500 people, who rallied outside the Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) headquarters in Lahore, as shouting slogans, “hang Davis”, “US terrorism in Pakistan unacceptable” and “Friends of America are traitors”.
“We are deeply disappointed over threats by the US government. The incident has exposed the true face of America and has exposed the Blackwater, which is behind bomb blasts on sacred places and shrines in the country,” senior JI leader Liaquat Baloch told the rally.
Protestors also burned US flags.
On Friday, a court had ordered Davis to be held in prison for another 14 days, pending a legal battle over whether he has diplomatic immunity.
Washington has been saying that Davis is a diplomat and demanded his immediate release.
US lawmakers have even threatened to cut payments to Pakistan, including the beneficiary of 7.5 billion dollars of aid and two billion dollars in military aid, and also warned that high-level dialogue is at risk unless Davis is freed.
Davis had shot dead two civilians in Lahore on January 27, and told police he acted in self-defence because he feared they were trying to rob him. (ANI)
